Reading Half Marathon 2004
7th March 2004

In 2001, Mark Lawrie, an employee of Reading Borough Council, ran the London Marathon for San Francisco Libre. Sponsorship money Mark raised allowed Milton, a PE teacher from SFL, to fly to Reading in spring 2002. Milton, together with Association member Toni Pujol, completed the 2002 Reading Half Marathon - raising over £1000 for projects in San Francisco Libre.

Now, in 2004, around ten members of the Association, and friends, will be taking to the streets on Sunday 7th March to run for San Francisco Libre. The photo below depicts four members of the team, showing off their new T-Shirts, specially designed for the event (click on the photo to enlarge it).

The confirmed members of Team RSFLA 2004 are:
  • Pilar Monfort
  • Lorraine Barker
  • Vicky Garcia
  • Eoghan Clarkson
  • Linda Connor
  • Panos Stavroulis
  • Michele Doran
  • Francisco Doblas
  • Martha Nicholson

Training schedules are on-going, and each member of the team has a different target time for completion of the half marathon.

An International Team

The wide support for Reading's twin town in Nicaragua is reflected by the number of Internationalistas present in its half marathon team. Marta is from Nicaragua, Pilar, Vicky, Lidia and Francisco are from various parts of Spain, and Panos is from Greece.

Sponsorship

As you may have guessed, the RSFLA running team will be raising sponsorship money to continue the projects that Reading is involved with in San Francisco Libre - including the Peter Oakley Trust which assists school children complete their education; a new scheme to buy bicyles which can be lent to school children living in more remote areas of the municipality of San Francisco Libre; and helping Jeyserd to establish his Carpentry Workshop.

If you would like to sponsor the team you could print out this page, then fill out, and post us the form below, or, if you are able to help by collecting a number of sponsorships, please download and print out our full size form, from the green boxed area above.

Gift Aid

Using Gift Aid, you can make your donation worth more. For every pound you give us, we get an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue.

This means that £10 can be worth £12.80 just so long as donations are made through Gift Aid. You can make your donation go further, simply by filling in the Gift Aid declaration on the sponsorship form.

To qualify for Gift Aid, what you pay in income tax or capital gains tax must at least equal the amount we will claim in the tax year.
