Jeyserd Torrez Martinez

Jeyserd arrived in Reading in July 2002, to take up a generous offer by Reading College of a scholarship to study Carpentry. Further assistance was provided by the local Parish of St James and St William of York, who raised funds for him, and arranged his accommodation in Reading.

During his year-long stay in Reading, Jeyserd attended English lessons as well as his carpentry course, and was a regular at RSFLA events - entertaining audiences with his guitar.

Jeyserd's first report on the Workshop
(26 Feb 2004)

In June 2003, Jeyserd finished his Carpentry Course, and prepared to return to San Francisco Libre. He received generous donations of carpentry tools from the College, local businesses, and Tools for Self Reliance (a national charity based in Southampton, with a workshop in Prospect Park)

Jeyserd is now back in Nicaragua and the RSFLA is helping him establish and develop a small Carpentry Workshop in San Francisco Libre. He has started by producing simple furniture as well as window frames, and has expanded his team to include two other carpenters, and two apprentices, to cope with demand.
